The Tambourine Resale Shop had an outstanding year! Sales were up 26% over 2022-23, allowing the shop to contribute a record 13% of the total JICSL distributed in grants and scholarships in 2023-2024. We have so many people to thank for our success, especially the John’s
Island Club members who so generously donate their “nearly new” or “gently used” items of housewares, women’s and men’s clothing, furniture, jewelry, art and antiques, And, of course, Jane LaFevers, our manager, and our 40 dedicated volunteers keep the shop humming and make it all happen!
It’s hard to believe that the TRS has been in business now for 44 years! When founder Johnny Van Name, a prominent John’s Island member, founded Tambourine Resale in 1980, she probably had no idea how much she would be giving back all of these years. Her lasting
legacy has had a positive impact on so many children and families in Indian River County, and we’re still going strong!
The continued success of the Tambourine Resale Shop is a testament to the intrinsic value shoppers and donors are fnding in the secondhand experience. Secondhand stores have become increasingly popular in recent years for a variety of reasons -- the growing awareness of the negative impact of fast fashion on the environment; the thrill of finding unique one-of-a-kind pieces that can’t be found in traditional retail stores; the fun in “upcycling” or repurposing old clothing into new trendy items; and, of course, the ability to save money
on clothing, household goods and furniture through thrifting. Running the Tambourine Resale Shop requires a combination of strong leadership, strategic thinking and our 40 volunteers dedicating multiple hours of their time weekly. Fortunately, our volunteers love the work – look what they have to say about working at the Tambourine Resale Shop. We are so grateful for their willingness to give their time, energy and talents. Their dedication makes this well-oiled machine what it is today.
We are excited to be celebrating our 45th anniversary this year and hope you can join us by making it a stellar one!!
