Scholarships Program
The John’s Island Community Service League is delighted to support the educational aspirations of the club’s employees and their dependents. This program began in 1999 in conjunction with Indian River State College for the post-secondary education of employees’ dependents, and has grown exponentially since then. In 2019, we expanded the program to include the club’s employees. We now partner with the Scholarship Foundation of Indian River County, as well as IRSC to help identify qualified candidates and coordinate the scholarship process. All of our scholars have to meet our requirements of tenure, full-time employment and GPA minimum. Additionally, we award several High Achievement Scholarships to extraordinarily qualified candidates.
Our award recipients are an impressive group, of whom we are quite proud. We support students at IRSC, as well as many state universities such as University of Central Florida, University of Miami, Florida State University, and University of St. Augustine. They are pursuing an exciting array of fields of study including Marine Biology, Experimental and Research Psychology, Sports Management, and Computer Science. From 2-year associate degrees, to 4-year bachelors degrees, to masters and doctoral, our award recipients are advancing and excelling.
Since 2001, the JICSL has funded scholarships to 40 low income students to attend Indian River State College. Eighth graders apply to this program. They are mentored throughout high school, provided they have good grades and remain drug and crime free. Following graduation, their college tuition is paid to cover a 4-year college degree. Often, they are the first generation in their family to earn this honor.
We thank thank all of our partners involved in our Scholarship
Program: David Colclough, Kerri Murphy, Camilla Wainwright, and Sherri Monds. But most profoundly, our thanks is to you, our very generous donors, who make it possible for us to provide this life-changing program to our wonderful employees and their families.
