Who We Are
In February 1980, Johnny Van Name took the initiative to establish the League. With a keen desire to highlight the needs of John's Island residents, both full-time and part-time, she embarked on a mission to enhance their community.
Her vision was clear: to generate funds that could provide assistance to women and children who had endured abuse. To realize this goal, she pioneered the inception of a thrift shop, which has since become renowned as the Tambourine Resale Shop.
Our Vision
Transforming lives in Indian River County through leadership, collaboration and dedicated philanthropy.
Our Mission
The John’s Island Community Service League is a non-profit, member driven organization. It is primarily involved in raising funds for operating expenses of charitable Agencies in Indian River County (IRC) concerned with the health, education, and human services issues that affect women, children and families in need.
Organizations that do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, or ethnicity will be considered. Scholarships for post-secondary education are also available for qualified John’s Island employees and their dependants.
